Mara Holiday joined the Buell Foundation in November 2017. In her role, Mara builds and maintains positive, lasting relationships with nonprofit partners and other stakeholders, provides guidance to potential grantees about appropriate requests, performs due diligence on applicants, and represents the Buell Foundation at a variety of philanthropic events.

Before joining the Buell Foundation, Mara worked as Manager of the San Diego Women’s Foundation (SDWF) and supported SDWF’s efforts to educate and inspire women to engage in strategic philanthropy. In her role as Manager, Mara provided program area and committee oversight, managed the annual grantmaking process, oversaw SDWF educational and member events, and managed foundation operations. She also served in an interim director capacity for several months, overseeing the entirety of foundation operations while the SDWF Board recruited and transitioned to a new Executive Director.

Mara has worked in grants management since 2008. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts Management from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Arts degree in Rhetoric and Writing Studies from San Diego State University.

Mara relocated to Colorado from San Diego in early 2017. She lives in Aurora with her husband and their two young daughters. In their spare time, Mara and her family are learning French together–and plan to travel to France in a few years to practice their French speaking skills!
